Katherine W. Prawl
(formerly Katherine W. Cochrane)
As the Founder and President of The CD-Info Company, Katherine was active in the CD industry starting from around 1989. She has written articles for several industry publications, including Metatec's Nautilus CD-ROM Multimedia magazine, CD-ROM Professional, Tape/Disc Business magazine and MediaLineNews. In 1992 she opened The One-Off CD Shop MidSouth, Inc., the first U.S. licensee of The One-Off CD Shop, Inc. of Calgary, AB Canada. In mid-1995 that company's name was changed to The CD-Info Company, and the type of business changed from CD recording services to electronic and print publishing and consulting about Compact Disc industry, techology and applications.
Along with eBook, CD-ROM, DVD and Web authoring & publishing, and writing about electronic publishing, Katherine participated in seminars and conferences about CD technology and industry, and was a working member of the IT9-5 technical committee. She is an invited member of the Gerson Lehrman Group's Council of Communications & Technology Advisors, and she is also represented by the Thomson Reuters Expert Witness Service (formerly the Silicon Valley Expert Witness Group). She served as a member of the SIGCAT Technical Advisory Group for their initial CD-R testing project. An independent technologist and amateur historian, she is available for consultations and speaking engagements about CD-R/DVD-R and CD-ROM/DVD production, electronic publishing and the CD/DVD industry, as well as her current activities.
Katherine lives with her husband and cat on a permanent RV tour of the USA and Canada. In Second Life, where her avatar's name is Kat Lemieux, she is a cofounder of the International Spaceflight Museum, and is President/CEO of the non-profit ISM Corporation which supports the museum.
